I am a little delayed with my Secrets Wild Orchid Montego bay review but better late than never. My lovely husband treated me to a much needed trip to Jamaica and we had a great time. We went the Friday before labor day weekend for 5 days and it was so relaxing.Secrets Montego bay has two parts to it, Wild Orchid and St. James. After walking around the whole complex I didn’t see much of a difference. The St. James part has a better beach but thats about it. If your planning on booking I wouldn’t get to hung up on which part to stay in because you have access to everything on both sides.
However, there is a part of the hotel on the St James side that is sectioned off for other guests. I am assuming the rooms are allot more expensive to stay there. We actually walked into the section by accident while taking a stroll.
The pool area is a little nicer than the other sections. Purely because the beds are nicer, aside from that I don’t think it is worth it. I would look into what perks you get staying in that section before booking. As I didn’t see what the difference was. When we arrived we were informed that we had a $200 credit that we could use at the spa. After they explained the restrictions, it wasn’t the deal we thought it was. You can only use $40 per session. If you are planning on having a few spa treatments this is a deal, but if you’re not then it’s not really worth it.
We were also debating on getting a room with a swim up pool. But after seeing what they look like I am glad we didn’t. It is basically one long pool with rooms lined up next to them, so it’s not very personal (see below pic). Luckily we opted for an ocean view room with a balcony. Which was perfect.
The food wasn’t fantastic, it was ok but I have had better. The breakfast was ok but the west indian food wasn’t very good.
Spa vouchers isn’t worth having, and I found some of the spa treatments a little pricey.
People can smoke anywhere. Each to their own but I hate the smell of smoke especially when eating.
Cocktails are not very strong
There is no club
Rooms are lovely and spacious.
The hotel is very clean and the staff are very friendly
Entertainment is very good
Restaurants are nice
Perfect place for couples.
If I had to grade the hotel I would give it a 7/10. If they build a club in the complex and make the food more flavorful it would be a 9/10.
